Dealer Notes

The all-new 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback has a sporty, low-slung stance, with a large, aggressive grille. Power comes from a 1.5-liter, 106-horsepower, 4-cylinder engine, which comes solely with a 6-speed automatic transmission, which comes with Sport Mode.

The Yaris hatchback will be offered in LE and XLE trim levels, with the XLE benefiting from automatic LED headlights with daytime running lights. This vehicle is 161.6 inches long, 8.3 inches shorter than the Corolla Hatchback - the next-largest hatchback in Toyota's lineup - which makes the Yaris an appealing choice for city dwellers, where parking can be a challenge. Also helpful in urban areas is the Yaris Hatchback's 32.2-foot turning radius, which is dramatically smaller than the Corolla hatch's 37.4-foot turning circle.

Even with its diminutive size, the 2020 Toyota Yaris Hatchback rides on a wheelbase that's almost 2.4 inches longer than that of the previous Yaris Liftback, and the cargo area provides 15.9 cubic feet of space, nearly what you can find in a midsize sedan.

My vehicle is amazing. I regularly get about 33 mpg. I do mostly city driving back and forth to work. It has a nice infotainment setup. The speakers are adequate, though I tweaked the factory settings to get more bass. I dont get the HD traffic maps in my area, but when I drive near big cities it works. I dont like how easily my interior gets dirty. I have scratches on my door and the seats have stains that wont go away. The A/C is amazing, though takes a second to cool down on extremely hot days. Ive noticed that getting a tire for my car is extremely hard. The tires are a unique size so only on company manufactures them at the moment, Toyo. It took me 3 months to get my tires for my car, while I rolled around on a flat. Recently, the air bag sensor was going off. My dealership replaced, and I havent noticed a problem since.

I think this car is as good as they come when price, durability, and driving are concerned. I took a 1900 mile trip from Northern Michigan to South Carolina in 2019 and the car averaged a whopping 49.7 MPG. You just can't get better than that. Although some complain about the quality of the interior I find it on par or above everything else in the price range. I'm 5'6" and about 145 lbs. and the seats and everything else seem quite adequate. If you want large car interiors, buy a large car. All in all this has been an excellent car and a looker too. Mine is black on black with chrome trim and it looks pricier than it is.
  • Great fun (if you work with it on acceleration!).

It really helps if you like the angry cat fish grill (I had a ‘66 Barracuda). I am 6 feet tall and have lots of head and leg room. The seats are great, except for the lack of an arm rest. It drives great, from mountain roads to long freeway trips but the sluggish acceleration is a consideration that you must anticipate. I have the automatic transmission and routinely put it in “sport” mode before merging onto the freeway. Also I will switch to manual mode to downshift more adroitly but it isn’t ideal to drive in manual mode because your eyes stay glued to the tiny digital tach. I was driving a crotchety 50 year old stick shift Mercedes sedan before this and a Ford Explorer that would literally spin its wheels if you floored it so to me the Yaris is fast enough. I actually really like this car a lot; I have great fun on back roads.
